Fergus Marsh  -  Bass and Chapman Stick

An illustrious career as a bassist and Chapman Stickist working with some of the top names in the music industry Marsh has had a long and brilliant career sharing stage and studio with some of the most prominent names in music..He has appeared on over 50 albums and has toured the world over.His tight,rhythmic Stick work can be heard on albums by contemporary Christian Music's late great Mark Heard, multi-Juno Award winner Bruce Cockburn, Alt Rockers Big Faith, brother Hugh Marsh,and Art Turner,to name but a few.He has also managed to squeeze in some jingle work.And now Fergus has released an album of world beat grooves with beautiful, spiritual themes.His signature Stick is in full bloom providing a rich tapestry upon which is built a magnificent experience of lush harmonies and meditative chants.Fergus was kind enough to take time from his busy schedule and answer a few questions for us.

With over 450 recordings, Dan Cutrona is considered one of the most requested producers, arrangers and keyboard players in the music business today. Having studied at the Julliard School of Music in Manhattan, NY. Dan was prepared for a wide range of musical experiences. Dan began touring and performing / recording with Joe Cocker, Al Green, The Bee Gee's, Billy Preston, Donna Summer, Denise Williams, Sir Cliff Richard, Dion, as well as The Archers, Bryan Duncan, Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill, Phil Keaggy, Andrae Crouch, and Shelia Walsh Over the past 10 years Dan has teamed up with members of the old Eric Clapton band and now records regularly with them.

Rich Brown/Bass

Rich Brown is one of North America’s foremost electric bassists, having toured extensively with Rudresh Mahanthappa as well as many other leading artists. Following the success of his band Rinsethealgorithm, and the release of a solo bass album on ADDO Records, “Between Heaviness & Here”, Brown has assembled an all-star cast of Canada’s nest modern jazz musicians for his new project, ABENG.

Elena Kapeleris/Saxophone

Elena Kapeleris is a graduate of the jazz program at Humber College in Toronto, Canada. At Humber she studied saxophone with world renowned saxophonist, Pat Labarbera. During this time, Labarbera placed emphasis on learning the lyrics of the songs that she was playing on the horn. 
Although her projects as a leader are primarily jazz, Elena is also involved in working with many varied styles (r&b, soul, funk, indie rock and many commercial and film recording sessions). Elena has played with a wide range of amazing Toronto musicians including, Pat LaBarbera (saxophonist), Richard Underhill (saxophonist), Rich Brown (bassist), Tom Juhas (guitarist), Sly Juhas (drummer), Brandi Disterheft (bassist), Richard Whiteman (pianist), and Lord Bubba's Nu Jazz Project. She also works with Toronto producer Byron Kent Wong, on recordings by international artists such as Rossif Sutherland. Her woodwinds are featured on the soundtrack of the movie “Poor Boy's Game”, directed by Clément Virgo, starring Danny Glover and Rossif Sutherland.

Rob Brown/Drums

Rob Brown is a Toronto based drummer, clinician and drum event producer. Rob has been playing for almost 20 years and is a self taught musician who has been very active in Toronto’s contemporary Rob began his own event production company in 2005, R.A. Brown Productions, to present innovative drum events designed to entertain, educate and inspire musicians of all levels to continue to develop their craft. His first two events, Drums Live! and three man tag drum clinic Rhythm in the Round have both been well attended and well received with exposure in DRUMS Etc.magazine and Breakfast Television.

Drums – Live! is an annual show that not only celebrates the art of drumming, but also is the first of its kind in the Toronto area. As popularity of the show grows, he’s hoping it will join the ranks of the Montreal and Cape Breton drum fests.

Al Cross/Drums

Born in Montreal -Moving to Toronto in 1979, Al studied with Jim Blackley, while playing full time in the Toronto area. During the 1980s he worked extensively with Jane Siberry, recording three albums and touring internationally.                                                           Working with Jane led to an ongoing career of live and studio work with many of Canada’s top singer songwriters, as well as jingle and soundtrack work. This includes spots for Presidents Choice, Tylenol, VISA, Tim Hortons, Chrysler, Clearnet, Holiday Inn, Zellers and Ontario Tourism, and working for directors Atom Egoyan, Mina Shum, composers John Welsman, Mychael Dana, Andrew Lockington, Leslie Barber and Dave Grey, and drum tracks for all of Sheridan College’s Musical Productions over the last 30 years produced by Al Poaps. In the 1990s Al was a core member of Big Sugar, maintaining a busy schedule of  recording and touring. Al taught at the Toronto Percussion Center in 1988 and has continued to enjoy teaching privately.  Receiving a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2002 allowed Al to study in NYC with one of the true masters of the art, Joe Morello, on a regular basis for two years.

Aubrey Dayle/Drums

After completing his formal education at McGill University and Manhattan School of Music, in classical and jazz percussion, Aubrey went on to perform in varied situations.

He has toured with James ‘Blood’ Ulmer, Hassan Hakmoun (support act for Peter Gabriel)God Street wine, The John Popper Band, Sam Rivers, Ernest Ranglin and several other artists. While living in New York City, he performed in diverse situations. He spent two years on Broadway performing on the show “Bring in ‘Da Noise Bring in Da Funk”. He also performed on the  David Letterman show and the Jay Leno show as part of the John Popper Band. Aubrey also performed at the famous Carnegie Hall with the New York Metro Mass choir.

Aubrey continues to work with James ‘Blood’ Ulmer in a trio, The Music Revelation Ensemble, and with his Memphis Blood Blues band that features guitarist Vernon Reid. He also leads a project called “My id” that occasionally includes Vernon Reid as a special guest. He has released three CDs with “My id”. Both CDs include special guest performances by Vernon Reid and other great artists. Aubrey has recovered fully from kidney transplant surgery and is back to performing full time in support of his latest CD called Jewel as well as the documentary film “StayAubrey!” His latest project is called “On Topic” with bassist Brad Cheeseman and Kim Ratcliffe.
